IMSBC Code Amendment 08-25: What’s New for Cargoes?
The IMSBC Code amendments (08-25) were adopted at MSC 110, with an entry into force date of 1 January 2027, and a voluntary early application period from 1 January 2026.
The amendments cover revisions to individual cargo schedules (11 existing schedules revised), and the addition of 12 new cargo schedules (both hazardous & non-hazardous).
New Cargoes Added
Amendment 08-25 introduces twelve new schedules for cargoes, which are listed below:
| Material | Group |
|---|---|
| ALUMINIUM SULPHATE GRANULAR | B |
| APATITE CONCENTRATE | A |
| ASPHALT GRANULATES | C |
| CRUSHED GRANODIORITE, COARSE | C |
| FERRIC SULPHATE GRANULAR | B |
| FISH MEAL, STABILIZED | C |
| FISH SCRAP, STABILIZED | C |
| IRON ORE BRIQUETTES | C |
| PEA PROTEIN CONCENTRATE PELLETS | C |
| PHOSPHATE ROCK FINES (uncalcined) | A |
| TUFF, COARSE | C |
| ZINC SLAG (coarse) | C |
Another notable change is the inclusion of “apparent density” as a formal safety criterion for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) (A), Briquettes, hot-moulded, which are now defined as having an apparent density greater than 5,000 kg/m³. Apparent density of hot briquetted direct reduced iron is determined according to ISO 15968:2016 Direct reduced iron — Determination of apparent density and water absorption of hot briquetted iron (HBI).
To ensure readiness for Amendment 08-25, shippers should check their cargo inventory against the new and modified schedules.
